Desire To Make A Difference

Little PHOENIXES Foundation, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization that began from a desire to make a difference in the lives of young children.  We are dedicated to encouraging youth to DREAM a bright future, empowering them to BELIEVE in their ability, and inspiring them to RISE above the challenges and circumstances they face.

We use our STEAM lessons to empower.  When we discuss skyscrapers, we teach our students they too can stand tall. When our students learn how planes fly, we want them to understand they too can reach great heights. When they learn about bridges, we want them to know they can endure loads while spanning from where they presently are to where they want to go.

Our desire is to go into neighborhoods and communities with customized curricula, introduce the principles of STEAM in fun and exciting ways, and create mentoring opportunities for youth that will continue to encourage them once the classes have concluded.

Our programs have included children from the Ward 8 community in D.C. as well as many who reside in Prince George's County, Maryland.   Through partnerships with other community organizations, we are able to reach our goals of taking STEAM to those who need it the most.

Fall 2016

In September 2016, STEAM Power began as part of an after-school activity for girls, offered by A Wider Circle, a community organization operating in the Barry Farm housing complex.

The 6-week, one day per week, program had five participants ranging from 9 to 14 years old.

Participants from the Barry Farm STEAM Power program continued on to the RISE Dreamers mentoring program.  The following summer, those young ladies also participated in the Saturday summer enrichment program held in southeast Washington, D.C.

Spring 2017

The start of the new year brought about a partnership with the organization So Others Might Eat (SOME).  STEAM Power is offered to the young residents of SOME's affordable housing as part of the SOME Place for Kids after-school program.

Children are given the opportunity to engage, learn, and increase their understanding of STEAM through lessons and hands on projects.

STEAM Power has been held at the following properties: Weinberg House, Fendall Place, Griffin House, and Chesapeake/Barnaby.

Looking Forward

In addition to our mobile STEAM Power program partnerships and our summer enrichment programs, we look forward to the first annual Dream Believe Rise Scholarship Gala in 2018.

Our goal is to build upon the interest of our participants from STEAM Power through Rise Dreamers, and then reward their accomplishment with financial assistance toward a degree.
