RISE Dreamers

RISE Dreamers is our mentoring program that connects mentors with young girls who have completed a STEAM Power program and want to explore more of world of science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM).

Our mentors commit to spending a minimum of 1 hour per week (or 2 hours every 2 weeks) with their young person(s) for activities that are STEAM related.  RISE Dreamers mentors help to guide our young ladies through day-to-day challenges while encouraging them to pursue a career in STEAM.

In addition to the activities that mentors plan with their mentees, there will be group activities for all the girls in the program. Mentors are encouraged to attend but attendance may not be required for full program activities.

Christmas Celebration

RISE Dreamers girls were selected by Shannon Whren Enterprises to participate in the annual Christmas Extravaganza where they created cards and other crafts, and received a picture with Santa.

The girls were also selected by the Kingdom Knights Motorcycle Ministry of Capital Heights, Maryland to receive a Christmas donation which they used to purchase gifts for family members and teachers.

RISE Dreamers Go To See 'Hidden Figures'

Granted early access to see the movie Hidden Figures, the RISE Dreamers girls visited Chinatown in Northwest DC.

While waiting for the movie to begin, and because their mentor Ms. Phoenix believes it's important to "always make time to learn", the girls had an opportunity to complete space related puzzles and read up on the persons portrayed in the movie.

'B U' (Beautiful and Unique)

During a Saturday workshop, the RISE Dreamers girls discussed the beauty in being UNIQUE.

Also part of the workshop, the girls focused their attention on bullying.  They created a short scene where they reenacted a real-life bullying scenario and addressed the proper ways to provide resolution.
